The Solution of Real Instances of the Timetabling Problem
This paper describes a computer program for high school timetabling which has completely solved an instance taken without simplification from a large and tightly constrained high school. A timetable specification language allows the program to handle the many idiosyncratic constraints of such instances in a uniform way. New algorithms are introduced which attack the problem more intelligently t...
متن کاملThe Sign-Real Spectral Radius for Real Tensors
In this paper a new quantity for real tensors, the sign-real spectral radius, is defined and investigated. Various characterizations, bounds and some properties are derived. In certain aspects our quantity shows similar behavior to the spectral radius of a nonnegative tensor. In fact, we generalize the Perron Frobenius theorem for nonnegative tensors to the class of real tensors.
متن کاملT Irregularly obtained real evidence : The Scottish solution ?
In determining whether to admit improperly obtained real evidence, the Scottish courts have engaged in a balancing act for over 50 years, weighing the public interest in the conviction of the guilty against the rights of the accused and the civil liberties of the citizenry. The Appeal Court’s approach to this issue has not been particularly satisfactory and the result is an incoherent mass of d...
متن کاملA Real-time Solution to the Wise-men Problem
Honest-to-goodness commonsense reasoners have finite resources and hence also limited reasoning capabilities. Traditional logically complete logics therefore cannot be used to satisfactorily represent the reasoning of these agents. This observation has brought about tremendous strides in the area of limited reasoning. We mention here several such approaches. Konolige [Kon84] distinguishes three...
